DEATH BATTLE!: Deoxys vs Boros (Pokemon vs One Punch Man)

Thanks Animator for the TN! He's based, doing daily TNs every day, just to push himself. meanwhile it takes me ages to open photoshop.

I’m writing this intro before Scarlet and Violet drop. If the games are out months after this releases, you know I failed. Update, It’s 2023. February 2023. God. Dammit. I have reasons that you’ll hear none of.

The Battle Maniac. A trope that strikes fear into almost any protagonist who…isn’t also a Battle Maniac, these characters stop at nothing to get what they truly want. To quote a pretty good Death Battle: “I love it, the thrill of battle, the beating of my heart, the taste of my own blood….I LOVE IT!”. Today, we have two such characters who have literally traversed the universe and all its dangers just for a good scrap.

Deoxys, the DNA Pokemon, the mode changing psychic mutant virus with an affinity for rocks, be they triangle shaped or meteors.

Lord Boros, the Dominator of the Universe, leader of Dark Matter Pirates and possibly the most iconic One Punch Man villain, give or take a Garou, and one of the few to “””force””” Saitama to use his Serious Series.

These two crossed lightyears to find a worthy opponent, but which of them has more than met their match? Let’s take a deep dive…

DEOXYS

The world of Pocket Monsters, or Pokemon for those of you without any sort of pop culture awareness over the past 2 decades, is jam packed full of mysteries and theories to explain said mysteries, even in universe! Much like our own world, a popular topic among scientists is “What life lies beyond the stars, and have they been to our home?”, however for the Pokemon Professors around the globe, the answer seems to lie in many different life forms that could be befriended by their ten year old children. The Clefairy Line, Solrock/Lunatone, the Elgyem line, heck they even have reason to believe their starfish equivalent, Staryu, might come from the inky blackness of space! However, in all such cases, while the evidence level varies, none are definitively proven. Every pokedex entry on the topic is one of those ones, the ones presented as a theory that makes Game Theorists decide to dump the whole Dex into the trash as definitive lore.

However there is one definitive exception. One Pokemon species whose origin is 100% absolutely from a world not our own, proof that life is out there. A species so rare that it’s not just Legendary, but downright Mythical.

And it wants seemingly nothing more than to drop a giant rock on the region of Hoenn to anger the local giant sky snake.

This is Deoxys, the DNA Pokemon.

Born when a space virus was exposed to radiation, be it from a laser, the atmosphere or just radiation floating around in space, Deoxys is a Pokemon with alot of unique characteristics befitting its alien nature.

Probably the least unique thing about it is its mono-Psychic Typing, but being uncommon does not prevent this typing from being extraordinary. This typing is the intellectual typing in alot of ways, with many of its members being noted to be even smarter than humans. Strong against toxins and physical might but weaker against malicious auras, the supernatural and….bugs, the Psychic typing is one of the most infamously powerful in Pokemons history, even if in game it's kind of fallen from grace due to its answers being everywhere and general power creep.

In VS tho? Psychic is one of the most broken typings imaginable. Almost every Psychic type that can attack at all (WOBBUFETT o7) shows incredible telekinetic abilities with the typing's titular move, Psychic, and Deoxys is no exception. In fact, its preferred method of interstellar transport is to use its psychic might to guide meteors through space. Deoxys can also use Zen Headbutt, focusing its willpower and psychic energy into its head to ram into its opponent and unlike its Psychic brethren Deoxys does not mind getting in close. It even has access to some rarer Psychic powers such as using Psycho Shift to pass status effects from itself to its foe, or calling on the energies from the space from whence it came to power itself up with Cosmic Power. Locked behind TMs in game (but TM moves have proven learnable without the funny CDs in other media) are even more abilities common for Psychics, such as the dual screens, Light Screen and Reflect, the ability to consume dreams with Dream Eater or even the dimension warping Trick Room to take on faster foes. Suffice to say, even with just its Psychic typing alone, Deoxys is a fighter.

But its unique biology is what makes it truly exceptional. As a living virus, Deoxys doesn’t work on blood or a heart or anything like that. Instead its body is primarily a bunch of cells clumped together around its central core, that weird sphere in its chest. Given its more fluid structure than a normal being of flesh and blood and its own psychic might, Deoxys has complete control over its cellular structure, allowing it to shapeshift its arms from tentacles to hands and back, which it uses to use its Wrap attack, regenerate so long as the core remains intact with possibly the most powerful Recover move in the franchise and most notably, shapeshift. Specifically, Deoxys shapeshifts into forms optimized for…whatever option it wants to take in combat. Normally Deoxys is a fast, frail attacker, while in its normal form, but it can take on 3 other known distinct forms at will to min max and adapt to whatever situation it faces. Its Attack Form trades what little defense the normal state has (outside regeneration, barriers etc) for even more offense, its Defense form bulks up and does the exact opposite while its Speed form is…actually the most balanced of the 4 forms, taking a punch better than Attack or Normal, hitting harder than Defense and of course, being blisteringly fast, faster than all of them. Any situation Deoxys finds itself in, it probably has a form to get itself out.

It’s skills even change depending on what mode it takes, though it can use all its moves no matter the form, it just has preferences. It can use Extreme Speed to go faster than fast, Taunt its opponent to make them forget strategy, lay Spikes and Toxic Spikes around the battlefield for control and damage over time, use the mighty, yet inaccurate, Zap Cannon to Paralyze its foes if it connects while doing massive damage, make shadow clones with Double Team, launch homing attacks with Swift, get rid of items with Knock Off or even steal them with Switcheroo, get up close and personal with Superpower or Meteor Mash and even Uno Reverse Card attacks back to sender with double the power via Counter and Mirror Coat. Hell, the pokedex says it is known for launching lasers, but nobody told me those lasers were frickin Hyper Beams, being one of few Pokemon to naturally learn the iconic beam attack.

Rounding out its in-game characteristics is its ability, Pressure, which makes getting into a fight with one of the many users of this ability an uphill battle, constantly draining the opponents stamina, making them do twice the work. Ontop of this, in the Mystery Dungeon games, Deoxys has its own signature item, the Revive Robe, which…doesn’t revive it. It's Pressure, but again. So basically, if you take on Deoxys, be prepared to literally work 4 times as hard!

So that's about all you could glean about a Deoxys from a quick skim of its Bulbapedia or Serebii page, but its still got a few more tricks up its sleeve. Deoxys has its own personal dimension which it can enter whenever it wants, either to flee or to BFR its foe. It's full of jelly beans. That’s nice. It can also absorb energy, and even other beings blood because it's a ball with a bunch of dense DNA controlled psychically around it, why WOULDN’T it be able to absorb shit?

Deoxys sees with Electromagnetic Sight, not in the standard light spectrum like most beings, which gives it X-Ray Vision, but makes it vulnerable to massive amounts of tech giving off similar waves, so it’s a good thing it can rather easily shut down technology by emitting said waves right back! It is also known to produce Auroras, despite…not learning Aurora Veil, but instead of using it to create a barrier, it uses it to create fucking illusions and is probably responsible for its ability to turn invisible. Basically it's a more psychic focused Magneto when it comes to Electromagnetism, right down to moving rocks and actual magnetism, and that's not even the limits to what its biology lets it do.

For example, beyond just Double Teams illusionary clones, Deoxys is capable of just…cloning itself and letting them fight for it. Seemingly these clones are weaker than the main body and are very distinct from the main body itself, being faded color wise or even translucent, but are otherwise fully capable of utilizing all of Deoxys moves and abilities. Such as its two signature techniques, the Delta Shield, a pyramid shaped barrier it uses to protect itself when steering meteors formed from strategic uses of the dual screens, and the mighty Psycho Boost. After launching this Deoxys may start to hit less hard (though in other continuities its spamable like in Generations) but it's an all or nothing ball of Psychic power that very few in Pokemon could reliably survive.

But this thing seems to just want a freakin scrap most of the time, so it sought out the one being who Deoxys very existence seemed to piss off and who could give Deoxys a good fight. Rayquaza, the guardian of Hoenn, the Ozone and eater of meteors, vs Deoxys, the driver of meteors. While Rayray is known for bitch slapping its Weather Trio contemporaries without too much hassle, even being able to handle their Primal Forms without transforming, it needs Mega Evolution to reliably deal with Deoxys, the two trading wins back and forth through different continuities depending on context. Mega Ray is certainly the stronger of the two, but given even Base Ray is capable of destroying the world destroying meteor Deoxys drives but seemingly cannot put the Virus itself down for good even as a Mega, that says a lot for just how strong this mutant really is.

Strong, but not invincible. It ain’t exactly top of the Pokemon totem pole after all, and I'm not even talking about its Dark, Ghost and Bug weaknesses. As mentioned, Deoxys vision can be impaired by machinery and its ability to psychically sense where you are only goes so far. Electromagnetic waves in general can hurt it if used right and its barriers and regeneration both have a limit, if its stamina is worn down it can be put down for a long ass time. Also turns out for a super intelligent pokemon, having your brain exposed on your chest is not a good strategy, and landing a hit on that core is a good way to stun the beast, while destroying it is a good way to put it down for good.

Still, the strengths more than outweigh the weaknesses. This extraterrestrial invader is one of the deadliest creatures in the Pokemon universe and one of the most mysterious. What does it seek? A fight? Friendship? A new home? Nobody knows the answer and it seems to vary by individual Deoxys…but just in case? Bet on the first one.

BOROS

The world of One Punch Man is honestly quite the dystopia, for a comedy shonen parody anyway. Every day the people of this world get attacked by monsters that could seemingly wipe out all life on Earth if they are not stopped, ranging from giant mosquito women or moles to continent sized Centipedes, the wrath of Nature incarnate, the king of an underwater civilization bent on enslaving mankind or…whatever the hell a Golden Sperm is.

Fortunately for the people of this world, they are protected by the Hero Association, a mighty group of super powered warriors who…honestly seem to have a stick up their ass most of the time, with skewed priorities, but their power and ability to protect people is unquestionable, provided you don’t throw like…an entire association of monsters at them at once. In particular the S-Class Heroes of this organization such as Genos, the Demon Cyborg, the powerful Esper Tatsumaki, the world strongest man King and especially the mostly absent but never doubted number 1, Blast, ensure that any threat on Earth can be successfully repelled.

But threats coming from beyond our solar system? Yeah that would be one hell of a test.

Then the aliens showed up.

It was over before it even began, large metallic shells raining down from the sky like hellfire, destroying 99% of City-A in an instant, with no hope of defense. The only structure that survived, the Hero-Association Headquarters. The perpetrators?

The Dark Matter Thieves, a group of space pirates who’d been ravaging the universe for over 20 years. They descended on the city and gave the S-Class Heroes the fight of their lives up to that point…minus Tatsumaki who yeeted the shells back at their ship in the end when she showed up but she’s a different breed of bad bitch, emphasis on bitch. But while the heroes dealt with the commander Melzargard, the other commanders were felled inside the ship, and the big boss challenged by the Hero Nobody Knows, The Capped Baldy, the One Punch Man, Saitama.

Finally, thought the leader of the Dark Matter Thieves, a worthy opponent. Our battle will be legendary!

Well, he was right, but battle is a generous term. But where are my manners, we finally get to talk about our guest of honor. The leader of these space pirates, the one and only…

Maybe, the legendary Dominator of the Universe, Lord Boros!

Born the most powerful member of an adaptable race who lived on a world covered in freaking lava, Boros fought to survive day in day out on a near inhospitable planet and didn’t just live…he thrived. The guy grew steadily more powerful and decided to venture out into the universe to seek worthy opponents, forming the Dark Matter Thieves during his conquests. Eventually however he got…bored. Nobody challenged him anymore. So when a seer told him to head to Earth to fight a warrior beyond any he’d ever faced, Boros spent the next 20 years heading straight there with only a few stops for planet ravaging on the way.

You know he’s serious business when nobodies been able to get him to take off that suit of armor. That thing’s not for protection, it's a power limiter, designed to keep Boros boundless energy locked in his person and not destroy everything around him. Once it’s gone, which is pretty hard to do given beings who took multiple S-Class Heroes to fight likely couldn’t do it, his true form and power is unleashed. He bulks up, turns a darker form of blue and his inner eye is unveiled. No it’s not a psychic thing, the dude has a second eye on his chest, almost like a core.

It’s just an eye tho.

Boros doesn’t actually have many abilities, much preferring to face opponents head on, fist on fist. The guy can fly by expelling energy, shoot energy blasts from his chest and most importantly, regenerate. As he himself explains it, Boros can send energy to injured parts of his body, focusing it, and heal it effortlessly. Given how similar healing factors work in fiction you’d think this wouldn’t be that potent, but at one point in his fight with Saitama Boros was reduced to a pool of blood and a floating eye and pulled himself back together good as new! Just look at him in his fight with Saitama! He’s batting him all over the place!

Because Saitama was letting him, of course. Boros was able to explain all of his techniques, throw em all out and Saitama just…face tanked em all. Because of course he did. That's what he does.

Eventually realizing “Oh shit, i’m screwed” like most people do against Caped Baldy, though most don’t live beyond the first punch, Boros decided to go all out, releasing all his energy from his body in his final form Frieza rip off Meteoric Burst. He completely speed blitzed Saitama (lol sure) and knee’d the guy straight to the moon! His power is near unrivaled in his universe…but unfortunately, he was fighting the guy who more than rivaled it, who jumped straight back to Earth, determined to end things in one more punch.

Boros decided “Fuck this planet” and unleashed all his energy in one final blast, the Collapsing Star Cannon….which Saitama punched straight through. Given this blast was supposedly able to at minimum wipe out the surface of the Earth, the fact that Saitama was able to punch through the blast when he started using the slightest bit of effort is a testament to how outclassed the space pirate was. He actually survived the blow, for a moment, enough to exchange words with Saitama and finally pass on, in some ways content with the battle fought, and in others, dissatisfied at how outclassed he truly was.

But comparing him to the dude who defecates on everyone in his universe doesn’t seem fair. It makes Boros seem like a loser after all, and he was anything but. He was able to get potent regenerators like Melgarzard and powerful psychics like Geryuganshoop under his thumb, the former of which was more than capable of holding his own against four powerful S-Class Heroes, matching them at least in power and winning until they figured out his weaknesses. Similarly, Saitama was “forced” to use a Serious Series move to finally take him down, and Boros actually did survive the hit for a second, which would put him above almost every enemy the cast has fought since, with the exception of Cosmic Fear Garou, who’s own broken limiter actually forced Saitama to actively get stronger as they fought to keep up with Garous increasing strength, even if he always had a comfortable gap in power. When the only man able to say he’s stronger than you in the setting since you died is the guy who stole power from God, you know you are one hell of a measuring stick...oh and Blast as well. Of note, given his ability to tank Normal Punches and be mostly okay, he’s almost certainly above the cast even outside Meteoric Burst, notably Tatsumaki who was able to tank a Continent destroying laser while injured. He probably wouldn’t be much higher than her however, cause Tatsus cracked, this bitch was more attractive a host for God than Garou, but even being in her ball park is absurd, let alone probably above it.

But even when not facing an unstoppable force like the One Punch Man, Boros is not without fault. The guy’s arrogant, willingly explaining every move before he makes them like any good anime villain, keying opponents into his impressive energy levels and what have you. This doesn’t really vibe with his fighting style, which is to end fights as fast as alienly possible. Why? Because the main reason for keeping that energy in with the armor is because he can’t fight for long at full power. How long he could fight outside Meteoric Burst is questionable but once he pops the form he’s on a strict clock. He was panting heavily after landing the combo that sent Saitama to the moon, which was only a few hits against an opponent who wasn’t hitting back, and the Collapsing Star Cannon costs him all his energy, which is especially problematic when he needs energy to regenerate. Plus given he needs to focus to make the regen happen, while the dude can seemingly still perceive himself when he’s in lil bits, atomization would probably do the job.

While Boros and the Dark Matter Thieves weren’t around Saitama's world for long, they made an impressively large mark…and crater out of a city. Boros himself has remained in the minds of the fandom at large for years since, his impact felt story wide and considered by Saitama to be the strongest opponent he’d ever fought at the time. If you are strong enough to get the One Punch Man to admit you are pretty good, the terror you can inflict on mortal men is beyond comprehension.

I guess they don’t call him Dominator of the Universe for nothing

"Come, and give stimulation to my existence! That, is why I am here!"

i suck at these oh god

All Right we’ve gone into extreme detail on these extraterrestrial existences! Time to see which battle hungry brute will be left to invade another day and which will fall in this war of the worlds.

It’s time for a DEATH BATTLE!!!!!!!

In a Solar System not far from our own, a large starship flew straight towards the Earth at speeds incomprehensible to human technology. This titanic bastion of interstellar technology housed some fantastical beings, none more fantastical than its captain, who sat, alone, in his throne, bored out of his mind…waiting.

‘Lord Boros sir’ a voice echoed in the captains head, the now named Boros slightly stirring in response ‘We should arrive on Earth in the next few cycles, what are your orders?’

‘Load the guns and prepare Melzargard Geryuganshoop.’ The now named Lord Boros replied telepathically to his right hand ‘Bomb their symbol of strength, mop up the leftovers and see if anyone there is worth my time or if that seer was talking nonsense.’

‘Very well Lo….LORD BOROS HEL…

It came without warning. Traveling faster than their sensors could detect, a meteor plowed straight into Boros ship and tore it in half, sucking the crew out into the vacuum of space. Some lived, such as Melzargard, but were stranded with no way to navigate, but most popped like balloons from the pressure, including Geryuganshoop, the cephalopod's psychic power unable to spare him.

Boros, in his throne room, held his breath and got pissed.

“All this travel, all this waiting….for nothing…because of a giant rock.” He thought to himself. With an almost inaudible growl he charged up and fired a blast of energy to shoot the slowed meteor that wronged him out of its interstellar flight path. When the dust clears all that’s left is a pitch black triangle.

Which started to move in a very deliberate pattern.

“It lives?” Boros thought as it continued its dance. Then he smirked evilly. “Good. It gives me somebody to TAKE MY RAGE OUT ON! He jumped out of the wreckage of his vessel past a screaming Melzargard (“We are in space” “We do not need breath” “But we do not have a way to move” “This is our forever” “This is not good”) to deliver a haymaker to the monolith that had destroyed his ambitions.

He was caught before he made contact with it by four tentacles, two red two blue.

It thinks?” goes through Boros head as the triangle continues to morph, a head and legs forming as its central mass slims down, revealing a glowing crystalline chest. The soulless blank eyes stared straight into Boros own single pupil before it looked down.

Below them was a planet, covered in rocky terrain and oceans of lava.

Boros saw what was coming before it happened, the being reeling back before tossing towards the planet like it was a major league pitch.

As the burning from the friction as he passed through the atmosphere overtook his senses Boros could have sworn he heard laughing echoing in his head.

Healing himself in the crater left from his impact with the surface, Boros was left the stew in rage on this molten rock.

“It breaks my ship, it kills my crew, it tosses me onto this worthless rock and worst of all it MOCKS ME!” he yelled “IF I SEE THAT COLORFUL FREAK I’LL TEAR IT LIMB FROM LIMB”

Boros felt its presence appear as if challenged before he heard its cry.

“You…you idiot.” Boros chuckled as he walked out of the crater his own body had formed. “You really don’t know whose wrath you have incurred? And yet you foolishly throw away your chance to flee? For what purpose? Do you desire death?”

In response, the beings tentacles on its right hand transformed into a hand, which it turned toward Boros, palm facing upwards and made a universal gesture known to all beings in the universe.

Boros grin never left his face, but at this it grew even wider.

“Then it is your end, fool.”

FIGHT!!!

Boros bellowed out a laugh as he launched himself at his floating foe, rearing back to deliver a haymaker right into its emotionless visage. In his battle lust, he failed to comprehend that he already tried this maneuver and it would likely end the same way, even now grounded on the planet.

Sure enough, Deoxys tentacled arm wrapped itself around Boros punch, halting it. The viral Pokemon shifted its weight to get behind its assailant, still gripping his limbs, shifting its other arm back into tentacles and performing a similar grapple to Boros remaining limb.

Then it reared back its head, its face glowing with a pink psychic hue.

Deoxys used Zen Headbutt

“OW!”

Deoxys used Zen Headbutt

“Let me go! Face your death like a warri…OW”

Deoxys used Zen Headbutt.

Now even more pissed off and nursing a migraine, Boros dug his heels into the ground and swung his arms in a very unnatural motion, tearing audible if you had superhuman hearing. His opponents tentacles were still wrapped around the flailing limbs, leading to the first blow landed on the pokemon. A slam right into the ground, leaving his head right under Boros feet.

Boros grin returned to his face “You could have died a warrior, on your feet. Now die beneath my heel.”

He went to stomp on Deoxys like an ant. However…

“What the….Psychic power?” Boros exclaimed, his foot unable to connect with his opponent's face, held aloft by a blue glow surrounding the appendage. Boros had fought his deceased lieutenant enough times to recognise the power.

That did not mean he had an immediate counter to it as the psychokinesis engulfed his form. Deoxys arms slid away from around Boros own appendages, allowing it to return upright, levitating once again in front of Boros immobilized body.

It still does not speak, its face does not emote, but even still, the energy in its eyes, Boros knows it well. He feels it. Its a look he had many times. The look one uses on a lesser being.

Before he can even exclaim outrage, Deoxys gestures and sends him flying into a far off mountain, which trembles at the impact. Stunned but far from injured, Boros begins to extract himself from the crater but his opponent is once again in his face, arm reared back and covered in a multicolored glow that reminded Boros of a star, ebbing and flowing with spiked energy.

And it impacted his armor with the force of a Meteor, Mashing up the mountain Boros was embedded in in the process.

Deoxys levitated over the rubble as the dust cleared, inspecting it to see if it’s foe stirred. It saw the energy flair before the rubble blew away, a vortex of power forming as Boros rose, now considerably less clothed, his armor crumbling away.

“My power restraining armor…gone…I can’t remember the last time I removed it.” Boros said to himself as he flexed his grip, testing his unrestrained power. His one eye shot to his opponent. “Perhaps it is not on Earth I was destined to find my foe…but on the journey to it…” he chuckled to himself and snapped back into a charging stance. “Very well then, creature, prepare to bear witness to power the universe has forgotten!”

Deoxys tilted its head to the side but before it could respond, Boros shot off the ground and was in the Virus’ face, much faster than anticipated.

“ENTERTAIN ME!” the Dominator of the Universe yelled as he finally connected with a solid blow, sending Deoxys shooting back towards the crater they’d started in. He wasn’t done however, using his not insignificant energy to shoot after and then behind Deoxys, uppercutting it further into the air, then jetting into its flight path one more time to try and smash Deoxys down into the ground below as it had done to him.

Deoxys was now prepared. Its form shifted as Boros appeared behind it, its mass seemingly increasing and becoming more rigid.

Boros hammerfist bounced off the more rounded Defense Form.

“You transform too?” Boros exclaimed before Deoxys was gelatinous once more, but before its new, sleeker form could be revealed beyond an outline, it disappeared. Boros turned as fast as he could, catching the true appearance of Speed Form materializing behind him as it started to shift again, it’s aerodynamic body becoming decidedly more spiked and offensive, its tentacles crossing over its chest. Boros responded in kind, charging up a blast of energy of his own.

Hyper Beam and energy blast collide point blank, engulfing our fighters in light. The dust settles one more time, showing both our fighters no worse for wear…at least as far as they are concerned. I mean, what is one limb to these fearsome, now one armed warriors.

Boros clutched at the empty shoulder socket for a brief second, grunting, eying his opponent doing the same…before he started to chuckle. Which evolved into full blown hysterical laughter.

“Yeeeeeeeessssssssssss THIS FEELING! A BATTLE OF EQUALS! I’VE FINALLY FOUND IT!” with a feral smile, he swung his torso allowing his limb to regrow with a flair, which he turned to his opponent and mimicked his gesture from earlier. Come and get some. “SHOW ME! SHOW ME MORE!”

If it could smile, Deoxys would as its eyes took on a more intense air. Its limb rebuilt itself without the theatrics of its adversary, but rebuilt itself nonetheless.

Boros licked his pointed teeth. “I knew it…You can keep up!” He kicked off the ground, unable to hold himself back anymore. “GIVE ME MORE! GIVE ME MORE OF THIS FEELING!”

Deoxys transformed into its Speed Form and answered in kind…then copies of itself appeared alongside it.

“Clones???”

The two should have collided, but Boros passed right through his foe. Which would be fine, he missed the real Double Team clone, basic afterimage shenanigans, but then the other clones surrounding it jumped the Space Pirate, all digging their tentacles into his chest in some kind of simultaneous punch.

Boros flipped in the air over himself a few times, too dazed to steady himself, before sliding along the ground face down. Undeterred, Boros quickly rose…only for his single eye to widen to comically large proportions.

See, he expected to be facing several clones of his opponent. He did not expect hundreds, a wide variation of the Deoxys forms he’d already seen. And they were multiplying. He looked behind him and saw even more. Some flickered, clearly illusions. Some were clearly all too physical.

Boros noted they were also off color. They were not as vibrant as his foe.

“Good try, but these aren’t perfect copies!” Boros yelled at the army. “I’ll find the real you, ripping your dopplegangers limb from limb to do it! Thank you for the present!”

As one, the clone army made a now very much repeated hand gesture.

Come get some.

Boros gave a joyous laugh and launched himself full force into a melee with the clones, immediately tearing apart a nearby Attack Form clone as he got jumped. Two Speed Form clones wrapped their tentacles around Boros arms, who jumped off an incoming Defense form clone, spun in mid air and crashed his captors into each other, making them disintegrate with the force of it.

Still in the air and inverted, Boros charged a powerful blast of energy in front of him and let it fly, disintegrating a chunk of the clones as it passed through them unopposed. He never made it to the ground however, as he was telekinetically caught by several Attack Form clones, who held him in mid air as some Defence form clones surrounded him and started to spin, scattering giant Caltrops for seemingly miles. A group of Speed Form clones charged the restrained Space Pirate and slammed him into the spiked earth, dragging him faster than the eye could track through the hazards which dug into the Dominators flesh.

Boros unleashed yet more energy, destroying the clones holding him down, and as he stood he ripped the Spikes out of his body and head, gripping them in a bloody fist before throwing them like a shotgun, taking out yet more clones. His senses tingled as he turned to deliver a haymaker to an Attack Clone trying to take him by surprise, only for his fist to pass through the illusion, another Attack Clone approaching him from above and slamming a crackling ball of electricity into his head like a Rasengan. Boros snatched the clone out of the air, held it in front of him and let loose an energy cannon once more, disintegrating the clone and several more behind it. He crouched to leap back into an aerial melee but as he went to bound, a spark ran along his person, leaving him paralyzed.

An Attack Clone, glowing red with Superpowered energy, appeared behind the incapacitated Boros, grabbing his shoulders and tossing him into the air to another Attack Clone, similarly glowing, who served Boros up volleyball style for him to be spiked by a third clones Meteor Mash…right down into the Spikes. Several Speed Form clones formed a ring around the downed Boros, eyes glowing, causing the rubble and spikes from the battlefield to clump together in a pile around the downed Dominator.

Boros was beginning to have enough. A geyser of power erupted from the rubble, disintegrating it and some surrounding clones. Boros leapt straight up, out of the dust cloud, high above the army assaulting him, landing a devastating uppercut into the Deoxys high above the battlefield, in Normal Form.

“Gotcha!” Boros yelled as his fist went straight through the Deoxys face…the clone disintegrated, making Boros recoil. “Another fake? Then wheres the real one?” His eye darted around in its socket, looking for any sign of his true foe. In the sea of washed out red and blue, he sees it, a tear in mid air. Sparkling, floating just above the ground, so thin you would not see it, were it not for the dull brown background.

With a smile and a growl, Boros shoots down, throwing a hook into an oncoming Speed clone, coiling his legs up and bouncing off a Defence clone deep into the melee. Flipping in mid air, Boros went to land a kick on another Defence clone, who was glowing red, the force of the kick cratering the Defence forms chest but the force rebounding before Boros could leap off it, the Counter unleashing the energy twofold in a blast right back at the Dark Matter Thieves captain and blowing Boros leg off, sending him spinning through the air.

Fortunately for Boros it was in the direction he wanted to go anyway, unfortunately it was right into the waiting tentacles of an Attack form, grappling him full nelson. Boros twisted in its grip, using his one good leg to beat away some incoming Speed clones, before regrowing his other leg with a growl using both limbs to bound off the same Defence Clone from earlier who had closed the distance, disintegrating it. The pair of Pirate and Clone hurtled towards the dirt at speed, the force disintegrating the clone on impact, allowing Boros to kip-up while sliding in a feat of superhuman agility and unleash a blast of energy ahead of him, but letting the force of the clone army destroying blast push him backwards through yet more clones, towards his objective.

He turned to face the tear a couple of feet away from it, planted his feet into the earth for one more leap, put the back of his hands together like a knife and thrust his whole body forward, plunging his fingers into the tear in Space Time…and pulled, allowing Boros to climb forward into another world, the clones fading into nothing as he passes through.

It's a world beyond even one as well traveled as Boros' imagination, a bright white void with multicolored shapes floating around it, not dissimilar to children's toys…or food, but a being like Boros has no eye for amazing sights, only amazing foes.

And his is floating right in front of him, in its Normal Form, eyes closed and glowing with a similar multicolored energy. Boros had no way of knowing Deoxys was calling on Cosmic Powers to enhance its abilities, but he had no care one way or another.

Deoxys opened its eyes as it heard the familiar growl, recoiling at the snarling face of its assailant.

“Found you.” Boros said menacingly before delivering a gut punch to Deoxys, right into its core. Deoxys folded around Boros fist, making beep boop noises that conveyed pure agony as Boros smirked. “I knew it. You’re like my former lieutenants combined, so like Melzargard, you have a weakness, a core. A tip, one warrior to another? Cover it up, else you’ll be vulnerable to attacks…” Boros retracted his fist just to deliver another sucker punch with the other “LIKE….” the Dominator of the Universe took control, using both now free hands to grab Deoxys head and turn to face the dimensions entry point, holding the living virus away from him to line up a mighty punt “THIS!!!!!!!” Boros let fly, sending Deoxys body right through the tear as his foot connected with the creature's abused core, but leaving its decapitated head firmly in his grasp. With a grunt, Boros clasped his hands together, destroying the useless head, before shooting out of the tear to pursue a foe he knew was not defeated yet.

Sure enough, Deoxys was stirring, the lower half of its face regrown and the upper half quickly following suit, the virus slowly, groggily, beginning to sit up as Lord Boros, for that is how all he defeated addressed him, touched down in front of him.

“That was so, so much fun, beast!” Boros yelled as he began to prowl towards his downed foe “But it seems our game is at an end! Yield, acknowledge my superiority, and I will grant you a quick end.” Each plodding step promised nothing but doom to whoever it crossed especially the DNA Pokemon right in its path “While I’d love to recruit you, I must avenge my ship and crew, you understand, not to mention how much time i’ll spend stranded here, so sparing you is not an option. Not that I'd do you that dishonor regardless.” THUD THUD THUD. Boros had closed the distance now, and his shadow engulfed his foe like it did the entire universe. “So what will it be? Present me the core, or make me beat it out of you?”

No response. Boros grin was wider than a black holes event horizon.

“A warrior's death, then.” he said, raising his foot over Deoxys core, ready to stamp the life out of his prey. “Goodbye, worthy opponent…” He made to crush it into dust, but found himself immobilized. “Your flimsy telekinesis won’t save you” Boros mocked, struggling to move his foot but was unable to break the hold. “What?”

In his mind he heard an inaudible laugh. A very familiar inaudible laugh. The same laugh from when his ship was torn in half by a large rock.

‘Hehehehe, stupid space pirate’
the laugh mocked in an androgynous robotic voice as Boros foe telepathically slid out from underneath him, getting right up in his face, tilting its head mockingly ‘You found my brain, fair play, but I found your weakness a while ago. You can’t control that power of yours at all, can you?’ Boros opened his mouth to retort before cringing at a headache echoing in his head ‘Don’t bother answering, I already know. I can feel the energy leaking from you, not to mention you’re panting hard.’ Deoxys flew up high above the trapped Dominator, flying mockingly ‘But me? I can keep going for as long as I need to, especially when I get you to waste your time on cheap copies. You really haven’t fought many opponents who can take a hit, have you?’

“So what, you knew you couldn’t beat me so you wore me down? Tired or not, when I get out of this hold, you will rue the day you crossed me!”

‘Oh no’ Deoxys telepathically chuckled ‘I could totally beat you. But why would I waste my time on someone. so. weak.

Boros froze, his anger leaving him in that moment in pure disbelief.

‘Now then’ Deoxys lifted him up into the air, level with it, before telepathically pushing him over the ocean of lava behind them, which began to glow blue. ‘Goodbye, “Lord” Boros hehehehe’ Deoxys made a gesture, clasping its reformed hands together, and the ocean of volcanic fury responded in kind, eagerly shooting out of its seabed in a snake like torrent, crashing into the Dark Matter Thief and surrounding him in a boiling ball of heat, rock and death. Deoxys shoved its palms down and the lava mimicked it once again, crashing back into its previous dwelling, swirling with whirlpools and waves, the Dominator of the Universe nowhere to be seen. Deoxys flew to the lavas surface, inspecting it for a sign of its opponent, initially finding none.

Initially. Deoxys felt it before it saw it, and saw it before the lava responded, bubbling below the DNA Pokemon as pure force rocketed towards it. Boros fist, now pure white and cackling with energy, broke through the surface tension aiming right for Deoxys exposed brain right as Deoxys brought up its ultimate defense, the Black Delta shield, to defend itself.

The lava, which was already being pushed out by the energy released by Boros Meteoric Burst like he was some sort of alien moses, rippled with the force of the impact. One second there was a rising white humanoid image punching a glowing black prism, then should you blink, the latter was gone, right as the sound of Boros yell echoed out.

“I AM NOT WEAK!!!!!!!”

Still, despite this war cry, Meteoric Burst took alot out of Boros and his panting went from noticeable and obvious to distressingly intense after one shot. “That….took more out of me…than I thought it would.” he muttered to himself, before he cringed, freezing up. Projected into his minds eye was an image of the death planets moon, high in the sky. On that moon was a crater, miles deep, and in that crater was a familiar black prism, which faded out of existence revealing Deoxys form.

Deoxys undamaged form.

Deoxys extracted itself from the indent left in the moon by the impact, the way its foe had from his own many craters formed this bout, facing the planet it had just been ejected from, and made one, very familiar hand gesture towards a foe whose one eye could not see it, but was very aware of what it was doing.

Come get some.

Adrenaline coursed through Boros' veins at the mockery, his pride willing his body to respond with one last attack.

“This…” Boros said as he charged up his entire body, arms behind his back “Is everything I have, no, beyond it! Enough to wipe you out of this reality!” The lava that had previously imprisoned him wasn’t just forced away from Boros but shoved almost past the horizon in the form of titanically large waves. “BEGONE, FOUL CREATURE!” Boros cried as the energy was unleashed.

This powerful blast was the Collapsing Star Roaring Cannon. A biblical beam that the universe had literally never bore witness to before this moment, capable of destroying anything in its path. Said path currently included a lone moon and a very arrogant DNA Pokemon who made to take it head on.

As the beam got closer, it dawned past Deoxys' arrogance that this may have been a mistake. In response, it shifted into its Defense form

Closer still, it realized that one way or another, this was going to hurt. In response it surrounded itself in a layer of blue energy.

When the heat of the beam was hitting Deoxys face it realized it should have put up its Black Delta, but it was too late, the beam washing the color out of the scene, reducing Deoxys to line art as we fade to white.

Back on the planet, Boros is left panting, hovering midair and admiring his handiwork. The moon was gone, reduced to dust, the light of his beam still visible like an artificial sun. The sky was beautiful, the acidic red of the volcanic atmosphere broken up by the white light of Boros power and majesty, surrounded by a wondrous aurora.

“It’s…done…” Boros panted, barely holding onto consciousness. The camera zooms past him over his shoulder, towards the bright light, towards its center, which is brighter still and the origin point of the aurora.

Unknown to Boros, but now known to us observers, Deoxys lived.

Barely, it looked like somebody had deleted the left hand side of its body and its right leg to boot, Defence form or no, but if it wasn’t obvious from the regrowing limbs, the aurora it was emitting or the vibrant blue glow surrounding it, Deoxys was very, very much alive.

And was very, very done with this match.

All healed up, Deoxys transformed into its Attack Form, crossing its tentacles over its core as the energy it gathered from Boros attack receded from its restored extremities into it. There was a ding as the energy disappeared into the glowing core, signaling something was ready. It flung its arms out and let the energy loose.

The blast emitted from Deoxys core dwarfed Boros own super move in the sky, both in size and speed, the blue energy engulfing not just the size of the former moon, but the whole hell planet the intergalactic duo had ravaged. Boros barely had time to question why the sky changed so fast when all he knew was pain.

And when he could next see anything but burning blue, it was the inky blackness of space. The planet he thought he would be stranded on was gone, reduced to scattered rubble. And before him was his conqueror, for he knew it to be so, Boros in a temporary existence of pure pain and a body consisting of his one solitary eye, while it was floating there, no worse for wear. Boros watched, as his life began to fade, as his foe, in its regular form, brought its hand towards him, palm filled with a ball cackling with energy beyond anything it had thrown at Boros outside the counter attack beam moments earlier.

‘It had strength to spare’ Boros thought to himself, shutting his eye as he prepared for the end. ‘How fitting…a warrior's death’

Deoxys unleashed its Psycho Boost, engulfing what remained of Boros and atomizing the remnants of the Dominator of the Universe, thoroughly dominated.

Deoxys' cry echoed through the vacuum of space as it reformed itself into its dormant, triangular rock form. The sky lit up with blue energy as the corpse of the planet just destroyed began to clump around the DNA Pokemon, forming a new transport for it to drive to Earth to find its true challenge.

When inspected later by Steven Stone, the asteroid seemingly contained the remnants of an alien spaceship…

KO!

If I had a hundred Pokedollars for every time Boros has been beaten by his own attack being tanked, overpowered and reflected, I’d have two hundred Pokedollars. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.

This fight may be pretty cool, but it’s not very close. Should be obvious when comparing a character with ~20 years of media who throws down with one of its verses top tiers to a guy with one fight where he died pretty handily but…it's One Punch Man! Boros is one of the few to see a punch and live (briefly) to tell the tale! Surely he’d scale higher and could pull ahead???

Nah.

First, Boros advantages, cause it’s the easier thing to go over. The Dominator of the Universe has vastly more combat experience, given most Deoxys have a few fights at most before shuffling out of narrative relevance (or into the PC lol) while Boros has been conquering worlds for at least 20 years, and this is only counting when he’d decided to head to Earth after he got bored. Plus he wouldn’t be caught off guard by a powerful Psychic for very long, given another psychic, Geryuganshoop, is his right hand man. Finally, and most notably, as impressive as Deoxys regeneration is, Boros’ is far more potent. Deoxys can regenerate anything at a reasonable speed so long as its core is intact, but Boros can regenerate his whole body in an instant, no core required, so long as a bit of him survives. Plus Melzargards existence means it probably won’t take long for Boros to deduce Deoxys weakness and aim for the core, given Melzargards is exactly the same.

Buuuuuuuuut hitting it and doing damage is a whole other story and Deoxys just has too much for Boros to deal with before getting overwhelmed.

Deoxys Psychic powers are much more potent than Geryuganshoop who basically has only shown standard telekinesis and telepathy and the ability to create pseudo black holes. Deoxys ability to control minds, not just communicate with them, erect barriers and complete control over its cellular structure are things Boros likely would not expect. Boros would likely attempt to fight the psychic up close, but Deoxys is just as potent up close as it is at range, able to constrict, trap and just blast Boros without much recourse. Deoxys is also a much trickier fighter than…practically anything shown in the One Punch Man world. It’s basically a fusion of some of the universes best fighters rolled into one kit wise. Standard energy blasts and punches just cannot compare.

Deoxys biggest advantage however, was Boros weakness and how uniquely suited it was to exploit it. Boros stamina issues are well noted and while Deoxys isn’t exactly a beacon of stamina either, it can afford to fight at full power for more than a few hits and can fire off its trump cards more than once. Ontop of that Deoxys Pressure and Revive Robe make Boros even more tired faster, wearing out his regeneration, and between Deoxys psychic abilities, intellect and Boros own boasting, this strategy would become as apparent to it as the core would to Boros. Deoxys illusions, clones, barriers, energy absorption, Dimensional BFR and of course its own regeneration mean it is well able to play the long game and Boros probably can’t keep up, unless he is statistically superior, to the point he can end the fight in one shot.

He ain’t.

Boros Collapsing Star Cannon is impressive, nuking the surface of the earth is of course, using Death Battles Numbers that’s 50 Zettatons of TNT, but Deoxys has him beat. Remember that giant meteor Deoxys tried to pile drive into the Earth? We saw in Pokemon Adventures what it would have done to the Earth if it connected and it left Earth in space dust. Given it guided this meteor across the galaxy in 10 days, the meteor would have been traveling at insane speeds on contact, almost a million times faster than light to go that far, so even assuming it took 5 seconds between the two panels (because FTL KE isn’t a thing), the resulting kaboom would be about 900 Zettatons. 18 times more powerful than Boros best move that uses all his energy. And remember, Deoxys can survive this impact and fight Rayquaza straight away, who deals with meteors like this as a job, but can’t put Deoxys down easily without Mega Evolving. Also it should go without saying guiding a meteor across the galaxy at a million times faster than light is a bit faster than anything Boros has come across before, given all the best feats he was exposed to were sub relativistic at best, such as Saitamas Moon jump or Geryuganshoops stated attack speed. That's not factoring Deoxys own methods of boosting its stats even higher.

Simply put, in order to possibly DAMAGE Deoxys in a meaningful way, who would in turn simply heal it right off by the way, Boros would need to go all out and land the Collapsing Star Cannon, but even that directly into the core wouldn’t end the fight more often than not. That's assuming Deoxys doesn’t just…send the move back with Mirror Coat, block it with Black Delta, chill in its alternate dimension, dodge it or just…prevent Boros from firing it. Cause it could do that, psychically or just keeping him off balance with its forms, it’s not gonna be like Saitama and just let him charge up and fire. And remember, this uses all of his energy and Deoxys makes Boros work 2-4 times harder just by being there, so if he could even use the Cannon at all is questionable at best. Once he does, if it doesn’t put Deoxys down, it’s GG, and a scenario where it would finish the virus off is just hard to imagine given the above.

Overall, Boros may dominate the universe, but even his adaptability and tenacity were unable to overcome the DNA Pokemons overwhelming power, psychic abilities and, in the end, his own weaknesses.

Deoxys DNominated this Dark Matter Pirate.

The winner is Deoxys

Summary:
DEOXYS:
+Stat Stomped
+Much more varied and potent set of abilities
++Several instant win conditions
++Energy Draining and running away was Super Effective!
-Less potent regeneration
-Even composited, probably a less experienced fighter

BOROS:
+Godly regeneration kept him in the game
+Experienced against opponents who utilised most of Deoxys arsenal
+Fought opponents with similar weaknesses
-None of these were one single entity however
+More experienced and ruthless overall
-No comparison stats wise
-No counter to mental abilities despite experience with similar, if lesser, versions
--On a very strict clock stamina wise, BFR, Illusions, clones and energy drain made this damning
-More limited moveset
-Probably not as smart

Stuff I shamelessly stole
So Boros calcs are mostly just ripped straight from Saitama v Popeye, which you've all probably seen. These numbers aren't accurate most likely, and were done for a similar level of doubt as was handed to Saitama himself in that episode. So just watch that again/go to the wiki

Some such as the Psykorochi laser are more recent and while I didn't go for numbers (as they aren't needed) I mostly cross referenced VBWs recent calcs on it for ease of use. Here

And his return jump calc is Here cause DB never gave it a number.

As for Deoxys, huge, massive shoutout to Jukems blog on the subject which I blatantly stole alot of when it came to Deoxys research, to the point I used the Deoxys form change manga panel from it in the actual text. Alot more detail is put into the kit than I do here, especially when it comes to sourcing everything, so its a highly recommended read. While I knew about 90% of Deoxys kit that i included, Black Delta and Revive Robe were the last like...10% i needed to make the analysis flow and guess where i first saw em mentioned.

Hard to believe neither blog covers TCG lol.

Next time: ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh boy.

So I started these fights with a purpose. To write matchups I want to and/or matchups I feel I can do more justice to than most others, right? But also, to expand my writing abilities. So, i figured, what if i take a match up i understand, like both characters in, but dislike it as a matchup (Hey Deku v Asta!) and, if it meets my criteria of “I think i can do this well and make it unique, ima do it”...ima do it?

After all 3 in a row that were pet projects is starting to get pretty samey. I gotta push myself.

So next time….

A classic match

The strongest there is
The big blue boy scout

With…a feminine touch.

Cousins to the strongest beings in the universe, these two ladies don’t aspire to their relatives' notoriety but kick ass in their own right….all while dealing with their own issues, terrestrial, professional and…anger..al…

SUPER SENSATIONAL SMACKDOWN!
JENNIFER WALTERS, THE SENSATIONAL SHE-HULK!
KARA ZOR-EL, THE SUPERGIRL

These ladies bring their own spin on Kryptonian v Gamma Mutate, and I look forward to getting in depth with not just their shared powers with their cousins, but also what they uniquely bring to this match.

I’m getting wild with this one, ya’ll groan, i know, i feel you, but ya ain’t ready!

See you next time, hope to get more blogs out in 2023!

Thanks once again to Medd for being a sounding board, Ani for the TN, all the calcs I stoBORROWED particularly Jukems work and actually Maxxine who pilled me on the match way back in the day. Before Battle Beast was a thing anyway lol.

Now off to play Bayonetta 3 pray for me.
